OURENSE - Hospitals in the Galician region are struggling to keep up with ever-longer patient lines, leading the opposition Popular Party (PP) to make a complaint to the Galician parliament on behalf of patients who have waited for months for treatment.

The complaint by regional PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo listed a number of patients and their cases after the party had got in touch with some of these disgruntled Galicians.

Amelia Naveira López is one of those that was in touch with the conservative party. Her appointment with a gynaecologist at Comarcal de Monforte hospital was cancelled this week, when she was told the computer system was not taking any more appointments until May.

Meanwhile, the provincial health delegate in Lugo, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Lois, denied that Monforte and other hospitals were effectively closed, although he admitted there were 1,300 patients on long waiting lists.
