One property receives 33 Social Security support cheques!

ONE PROPERTY RECEIVES 33 SOCIAL SECURITY SUPPORT CHEQUES!The owner of a rented property in Lisbon was surprised when he went to collect the mail, faced with an unexpected bundle of 33 postal orders worth 125 euros each in Social Security support.

In total, more than 4,000 euros were sent by Social Security to the property which has been leased over the past few years, but NOT to so many different tenants. The owner recently inherited the property, and is aware that his mother had signed a lease contract with an immigrant about four years ago, but no more than that.

Several times over the last few years, several frauds regarding the residence permit for immigrants have been reported. A source from the Foreigners and Borders Service admits that someone would have used this address to register the dozens of immigrants for Social Security payments, and although the Ministry of Social Security guarantees that when fraud is detected, the authorities are notified, in this case, it obviously did not prevent the sending of the cheques.

It is unknown whether the ‘recipients’ of these vouchers are even still in Portugal.
