New road opens, to reduce traffic in Loulé

NEW ROAD OPENS, TO REDUCE TRAFFIC IN LOULÉYesterday, the new section of road between Rotunda das Pereiras and the EM522, in Escanxinas, Loule was officially opened to traffic.

The new road, an investment of more than 1.6 million euros, will reduce traffic in Loulé, offering an additional option to reach the coast, decongesting traffic in the town and providing “more safety and comfort.”

This new section is a completely new road, 1,700 metres long, with pavements on both sides, with two roundabouts. The mayor of the Municipality of Loulé, Vítor Aleixo, said the work is “another facility that is available to both residents and tourists who visit us”, not least because this area is a gateway to the main tourist resorts in Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, Ancão and Garrão.”

It is hoped that the new road will be fundamental in reducing the heavy traffic circulating on Avenida do Atlântico, especially during the summer.

“Motorists who want to go further to the east of Quarteira will be able to use this new route and, from that point of view, we have the expectation that some existing congestion on the EN396 can be alleviated”, Vitor Aleixo explained.

At the inaugural ceremony, the mayor also underlined the “landscaping and environmental enhancement” carried out. “It is a road with a very beautiful panoramic view, which runs through an area that until now was not known to people”, he said.
