The beautifully shaped Casa do Forno in Silves, just down from the square below the Council building, is to be renovated after decades of dereliction.
The Council is being supported by EU funds to renovate the building and turn it into the Casa dos Vinhos.
The total investment of €301,000 has been awarded a European Regional Development Fund grant, administered through CRESC Algarve, that will cover 70% of the cost.
The project is to adapt the Casa do Forno into an exhibition and display space for local products, including wine and spirits, as the building is well placed for tourist flow between the riverside area and the walk up to the castle.
It is estimated that building work will be completed by the end of July 2020.
