France will host the next G20 summit of the world's leading economic powers on November 3 and 4 in the Riviera resort of Cannes, the deputy mayor of the town told AFP on Friday.

President Nicolas Sarkozy formally took on the G20's rotating presidency on Friday at the end of the G20 summit in Seoul, and France will hold it for the next year as leaders struggle to reform the global monetary system.

Cannes is home to Europe's most prestigious film festival and has a large selection of luxury hotels and conference facilities, including the "Palace of Festivals, which deputy mayor David Lisnard said "is easy to secure."

France is also the next leader of the G8 group of the world's most powerful industrialised economies. The next G8 summit will be held in June next year in the northern seaside resort of Deauville.
