‘Biosphere certification’ discussion at Aljezur’s nature Tourism event this weekend

beachOne of the most important nature tourism events in the region starts in Aljezur on Friday and runs until Sunday, February 24, with the support of the Algarve region’s tourist board.

The challenge is to build a more sustainable future for the Algarve, a destination that in 2018, was host to 18.8 million overnight stays and more than 4.2 million guests in the region’s hotels.

The tourist board’s stand aims to help spread the region’s natural heritage to visitors and will hand out guides, brochures, gifts and information about the Algarve Walking Season project and events supported by the RTA including the Algarve Bike Challenge, the Birdwatching Festival and the Algarviana Ultra Trail.

The round table discussion this time, asks, ‘What value can a Biosphere certification create for the Algarve Brand?’

“The biennial event is aligned with the strategy defined for the region, which involves the diversification of tourism through products such as nature, nautical, touring and gastronomy and wines. Only by providing this type of supply – which corresponds to the increasing demands of an increasingly sensitive demand for social, environmental and economic issues – will we achieve a balanced regional development,” says the increasingly eloquent president of the tourist board, João Fernandes.

The Nature Tourism Biennial is an initiative from the Vicentina association, co-financed by CRESC Algarve and the municipality of Aljezur, and has several partners, among them the tourist board, In Loco and the Terras do Baixo Guadiana association.

The event takes place from February 22 to 24, in the Aljezur multipurpose building from 09:30 to 22:00 (days 22 and 23) and from 09:30 to 21;00 on the 24th.
The objective is to promote the territory, the existing supply of nature tourism facilities in the region and the tour operators that operate in this sector.
