Jamie Oliver opens Amsterdam restaurant

15 December 2004

AMSTERDAM — British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has opened the Amsterdam branch of his restaurant Fifteen, where 15 disadvantaged young people are being given chef’s training as part of a reality programme.

Oliver, known as the Naked Chef, marked the opening on Tuesday by spray painting “Love Jamie” on one of the several sheets of corrugated iron hanging inside the restaurant.

The restaurant is located on the Oostelijke Handelskade.

The Oliver also has a Fifteen restaurant in London and in the Dutch version, 15 disadvantaged youths are again being given chef’s training in 10 weeks. The show, Jamie’s Kitchen, is being aired every week until the end of December on commercial broadcaster Net 5.

The popular British chef said he plans to open similar restaurants, indicating his next choice of location would be Melbourne, Australia. But he said this will not happen for a couple of years.
