Rainy day activities in Luxembourg

Even when the weather is cold and damp, there are plenty of interesting activities in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to keep the whole family entertained.

Winter has arrived right on schedule. The weather is cold and dreary, days are shorter, and the kids have no energy. They end up on the couch watching television or in front of the computer screen, rather than outside where they would rather be. Even when the weather is cold and damp, there are plenty of interesting activities and museums in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to keep the whole family entertained.

Museum of Natural History

For inquisitive little minds, why not explore our roots in the modern Natur Musée (Museum of Natural History)? The discovery tour display begins with the question “Who am I?” and continues to investigate the local countryside and our world. Even the mystery of the Big Bang theory unravels. The temporary exhibition Affaire de goûts invites big and small to learn more about 400 flavors and to experience 40 different taste sensations.

Vitarium

Another experience involving taste and healthy food is the brand new Vitarium in Roost/Bissen by Mersch from the local dairy producer Luxlait. Using more than 40 interactive stations children can, for instance, enter a race against a cow or look deeply into the human body. The experience begins in a 3D cinema at the center of the Vitarium. Then visitors set off on a 90-minute tour of milk production via the visitor’s gallery.

The Casino Luxembourg – Forum for Contemporary Art

If your child wants to get creative, many museums offer kids workshops.  The Casino Luxembourg – Forum for Contemporary Art has a children’s art pass, Kanner Konscht Pass. For €25 per year, children can take part in Saturday workshops (or €5 per workshop). Every workshop is different, for example, creating your own island with its own rules or designing a personalized card game.

Kulturhuef

The Kulturhuef in Grevenmacher, with its print and playing card museums, is offering a wide range of creative workshops for children on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, as well as during school holidays. Children will discover how flexible a material paper can be. Create small sculptures out of papier-maché or a boring piece of paper can become a decorated marble paper. Furthermore, there are many workshops, such as creating stamps or badges and creating animals out of foam.

Centre Aquatique Krounebierg

Missing the sea or lake? Make a splash! The Centre Aquatique Krounebierg in Mersch is highly recommended. Everyone’s needs are catered to with indoor pools, fun activities for small and big kids (including a 45-meter slide) and a gorgeous spa area (maybe an idea for mum, while daddy takes care of the kids).

Zigzag

Last but not least – Luxembourg’s place to be for families: Zigzag is a colorful children’s paradise with an enormous climbing tower extending over numerous levels with lots of fun details. Divided into two zones, the playgrounds are specifically suited to each age group. The pleasant family restaurant also offers tasty and healthy snacks.
