Skyrocketing Wild Boar population now attacking golf courses

Skyrocketing Wild Boar population now attacking golf courses. As the population of Wild Boars in the Algarve increases, the damage is no longer limited to vegetable gardens. Golf courses have also reported more and more unwanted visits.

The damage these animals cause is mostly in churning-up the ground in their hunt for worms, at night time. Their more frequent visits in recent years is said to be linked to the drought situation.

Rui Grave  director of the Dom Pedro hotels’ courses which hosted last weekends Portugal Masters golf tournament, admitted to having seen one wild boar on the Victoria course in the early morning just last week.

Farmers and hunters complain that the pandemic has turned the wild boar population into a pest, requesting for correction of the wild boar population. Hunters have already been authorised to take action to prevent the wild boar from continuing to breed uncontrollably.
