Two Russians on chopper in Afghan landing: company

Two Russian crew members were on board a chartered helicopter which made an emergency landing in eastern Afghanistan, the charter firm said Monday.

Afghan officials said earlier Monday the passengers and crew were seized by Taliban insurgents after the helicopter landed on Sunday evening in Logar province south of Kabul.

A spokesman for Afghan-based Khorasan Cargo Airlines told AFP the Mi-8 helicopter carried seven Turks working on a road project, a Russian pilot and flight engineer and an Afghan co-pilot.

He said the aircraft had landed due to cloudy weather but his company had no information about what had happened to the passengers and crew.
