Cancer treatment can cost hundreds of thousands of pounds in some countries. If you’re an expat, you likely won’t have the support of that country’s health system and could be bankrupted if you needed expensive treatment. That’s what international health insurance is for.

Allianz Care has been providing international health insurance since 2000 and has a global network of over 2 million healthcare providers. This makes it one of the biggest players in international healthcare.

This review will give you the key information about Allianz Care. Then you can decide if it’s right for your next international health insurance policy. For the pricing tables and comparisons with over providers, we’ve outlined our methodology.

Allianz Care

The Munich-headquartered financial services company offers international health insurance plans for expatriate students, professionals, couples and families. Depending on the policy, Allianz Care covers everyday medical expenses, emergency treatment, dental consultations, maternity, surgery, and outpatient fees.

Who is Allianz Care? Company overview

Allianz Care’s parent company was founded in 1890. In 2000, what would become Allianz Care was launched, with a focus on international health insurance.

How to get started with Allianz Care

  1. Visit the Allianz Care website. If you enter who the cover is for and where you need cover, you’ll get taken to a page comparing the different plans.
  2. Get your personalised quote. You can start this after completing step 1.
  3. Compare plan options. Have a look at what each plan includes and which one is most suitable for your needs.
  4. Complete the application. When you’re ready to decide, enter your details correctly and fill out all the forms. You can request a callback if you need help. Otherwise you can proceed to payment.
  5. Make your first payment. You can do this online and choose the payment frequency. Remember there’s a surcharge if you pay more frequently than annually.
  6. Receive policy confirmation. You’ll get your policy documents emailed to you. It’s important to make sure the information is correct.

Final verdict: is Allianz Care worth it?

As one of the big players in international health insurance, Allianz Care could be a good choice for your needs. Especially if you’re after an insurer with a large network. Its premiums aren’t the cheapest in the market but the cover levels are high.

If you want a region-specific plan then this could also be right for you.

If you’re on a smaller budget or don’t need a high level of cover then other providers might offer you better value.

You might also need to consider if you need outpatient care because Allianz Care’s plans have that as an add-on, while other providers include it in their plans.

You should compare quotes from multiple providers and decide exactly what you need before purchasing insurance.
