Police raid Luxembourg sites in Icelandic bank probe

Scores of police from Luxembourg, Britain and Iceland mounted raids in a fraud probe into the collapse of nationalised Icelandic bank Kaupthing, Luxembourg prosecutors said Tuesday.

Fifty-five Luxembourg officers joined 11 finance specialists from Britain’s Serious Fraud Office and seven Icelandic prosecutors after British and Icelandic probes called for back-up at five separate Luxembourg sites.

The bank, since sold on, was already the object of raids in October 2009 and January 2010 sought by Icelandic authorities, but legal blocks prevented material seized from being sent to Iceland until one year later.

The Serious Fraud Office also mounted raids in London on March 9.
