Jaen – An elderly couple and a young woman died in Spain after their cars were swept away by flash floods, police said Thursday.
The couple in their 70s died Wednesday after the 4×4 vehicle they were travelling in was caught in flood waters in the region of Jaen in southern Spain which dragged it more than 50 metres (yards).
Police found the body of a 25-year-old woman inside her car Thursday a day after she called her brother to ask for help as her car was swept away by the flood waters in Torre Pacheco in the southeastern region of Murcia.
Twelve Spanish regions, including Barcelona in the northeast, Valencia in the east and Jaen, were on alert Thursday because of the threat from heavy rainfall.
Flooding has caused damage to homes, cars and agricultural fields in the provinces of Alicante and Jaen.
