Spain’s government summoned the ambassador of Argentina on Tuesday for the second time in five days after Buenos Aires’ decision to expropriate oil group Repsol’s subsidary YPF.
Ambassador to Spain Carlos Bettini was summoned to appear at the foreign ministry in the early afternoon, a ministry spokesman said.
Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo had already summoned the ambassador Friday to express Spain’s concerns over reports that Argentina was considering nationalising YPF.
Ignoring those concerns, Argentina’s President Cristina Kirchner announced Monday her decision that the state would take over 51 percent of YPF, in which Repsol has a 57.4-percent stake.
Spanish Industry Minister Jose Manuel Soria told national radio Tuesday that Spain would take steps in diplomacy, trade, industry and energy in reaction to Argentina’s decision, without giving further details.
