Spain blacklisted by US for not clamping down on internet piracy

29 April 2008

MADRID – The US Trade Representative (USTR) publicly criticised the Spanish government on Monday for not doing enough to deter illegal file sharing of music and video on the internet.

The United States has also put Spain on a special watchdog list of nations that are not clamping down on internet piracy.

"The United States is concerned that the Spanish government has not taken adequate measures to confront the ever-growing problem of internet piracy, which US companies consider the gravest in Europe," said a USTR statement.
