Finland to upgrade surveillance planes

Finland is to replace its outdated Fokker F27 military surveillance aircraft with a Spanish-made Airbus Military Casa C-295M transport plane, the Defence Ministry said Wednesday.

The new aircraft and surveillance system has a price tag of around 112 million euros (144.4 million dollars), it said in a statement, adding the new plane would be delivered to Finland in 2013.

The Nordic country's air force already has two Casa C-295M transport planes, and the last of its Fokkers will be taken out of use by 2015.
