SPAIN - The heatwave gripping Spain shows no sign of abating, with temperatures set to top 40 degree Celsius in central and southern provinces on Tuesday.

Across the rest of the country 36 degree Celsius is being forecast, with some respite for residents of the north and northeast as cloud and light rains sweep in.

Zaragoza and Jaén remain on orange alert as temperatures continue to sear the peninsula - signalling little reprieve for those on the annual August exodus from the cities.
