Zaragoza to stage Expo 2008

16 December 2004

ZARAGOZA-The eastern industrial city of Zaragoza has won the nomination to stage the Expo 2008 exhibition.

The Office of International Exhibitions (BIE) announced Zaragoza will stage the grandstand show.

The exhibition will be staged between 14 June and 13 September 2008 and is expected to bring 7.5 million visitors to the city and millions of euros in income.

Zaragoza, in Aragon, was competing against Trieste in Italy and Salonika in Greece.

The city based its bid on the theme of ‘water and sustainable development’.

Zaragoza staged two major national exhibitions in 1868 and 1885 and an Hispanico-French exhibition in 1908.

The last Spanish city to stage the Expo was Seville, putting the Andalusian city on the international map.
