Works by German artist on show in Madrid
An exhibition of works by German contemporary artist Hans-Peter Feldmann, best-known for his collages and his series of photographs, opens at Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum Wednesday.
About 100 of his most representative works can be seen in the show entitled simply “An Art Exhibition”.
“It sounds like a descriptive title but it allows us to say that everything you find there is art,” said the show’s curator, Helena Tatay.
She said the exhibition groups “sculptures, paintings and above all a lot of everyday images and objects”.
A tireless collector, Feldmann, born in 1941, attempts “to shine the spotlight on what seems banal”, said the director of the Reina Sofia, Manuel Borja-Villel.
It can be in the form of a collage of postcards, a series of photographs of the legs of women or a collection of the front pages of more than 150 newspapers from the same date, September 12, 2001, the day after the attacks in New York and Washington.
The exhibition also includes a series of photographs entitled “100 years” which is composed of 101 portraits of people aged from eight weeks to 100 years.
The exhibition is open until February 28, 2011.
