Wife jailed for gender violence slap on husband

17 December 2007

SEVILLE – In an unusual application of the gender violence law, a woman from Gines, Seville, was handed a four-month jail sentence for slapping her husband in front of their two daughters in February 2006.

A provincial court reduced the sentence from the original nine months "because of the circumstances prior to the slap."

The incident occurred when M.A.A.S. and her husband F.A.D., who were in the process of separating, had an argument over custody of the children. The woman slapped F.A.D., causing a bruise that took one day to clear up.
