Two teenagers arrested for British expat murder

6 March 2006

MALAGA — Two teenagers have been arrested for the murder of a British expat who was stabbed to death on a night out.

The 22-year-old died in hospital after being stabbed by a gang who police at first believed tried to steal his mobile.

The two teenagers were arrested last Saturday, police said.

The man, who lived in Benalmádena on the Costa del Sol for four years,  underwent surgery for six hours after the attack on Thursday.

He died on Friday afternoon in hospital.

His vital organs were seriously damaged during the attack in the early hours in Benalmádena.

The man, who has not been fully named by police, was walking with a friend when at least four people assaulted him. They also stabbed the other man, but he was not seriously injured.

Police said the man had been stabbed in the thorax and legs.

Surgeons at the Hospital Clínico in Malaga had to remove a kidney during an operation.

Detectives said it was first thought the gang had attempted to rob the man and his friend but after they put up a fight, nothing was stolen.

Now they are keeping an open mind on the motive for the attack.

The victim had a two-year-old son.
