GENEVA – Two Spanish climbers died after falling from a peak in the Swiss Alps, authorities said Wednesday.
Two men, aged 48 and 55, were killed Tuesday in Zermatt near the Italian border.
Both men, who have not been identified, were from the Madrid area.
The accident happened between the peaks of Dufour and Grenzgipfel in the Valais valley in the south-east of Switzerland.
Rescue services found the bodies late Tuesday.
The Spanish consulate in Geneva has been in contact with the families of the two climbers.
The Spaniards had left a refuge in the valley on Monday.
Rescue services raised the alarm when they had not heard from the climbers.
An air search spotted their bodies on the glacier Grenzgletscher.
Twenty-one people have lost their lives trying to conquer this glacier this year alone.
