16 January 2008

MADRID – A six-year-old girl died Tuesday when she was run over by a forklift truck during a school trip to a factory in the central Spanish province of Avila.

The child, whom police identified by the initials L. J. S., apparently fell in front of the forklift as she waited with 46 classmates for the school bus outside the Dulces Arenas factory in the town of Arenas de San Pedro. The girl was originally from nearby El Arenal, a village of 1,200 inhabitants whose mayor has declared two days of mourning.
