Three police, 20 tons of cannabis, held in raids

MADRID – Police arrested 39 people on Monday including Civil Guard officers connected with an international cannabis smuggling gang.

The drugs were being brought into Spain hidden in fishing boats from Morocco which docked at Almeria, police sources said.

The operation – codenamed Mamola – led to the arrest of 39 people including three Civil Guard officers and the seizure of 20 tonnes of cannabis.

The inviestigation has been underway for more than a year.
