Three migrants found dead off Spanish coast

Spanish officials said they found three bodies on Thursday off the coast of Murcia in southeastern Spain, while six people were rescued.

“We have begun a search for a possible capsizing off Cape Palos. Three bodies were found, six people were rescued,” the Murcia prefecture said in a statement.

A search for other possible survivors continues “between Cape Palos and Cape Negrete”, close to the city of Cartagena, the prefecture said, adding that the number of people who were on board the boat was not yet known.

In total, 35 migrants arrived in the region on Thursday morning in four boats, including the vessel suspected to have capsized, from the Spanish coast opposite Algeria.

Officials did not provide details on the migrants’ nationality, age or sex.

Spain is one of the main countries of entry for migrants seeking to settle in Europe.
