Thousands pay tribute to those who helped out on 11 March

MADRID – Thousands gathered in the centre of Madrid Thursday to pay homage to those public servants and unknown people who helped out on 11 March.

A huge banner with the words: “Thanks to all” covered the offices of the Madrid regional government in the Puerta del Sol.

Six huge posters were also unfurled with the names of the 190 people who were killed and the 1,900 who were injured in the terrorist attacks.

The ceremony was headed by Esperanza Aguirre, the president of Madrid’s regional government.

It began with after the clock in the Puerta del Sol struck 12 at midday.

The crowd sang the national anthem.
