Spanish singer Luz Casal, who underwent breast cancer surgery in January 2007, said Monday she needs surgery on her other breast after doctors found the cancer had returned.
“I am writing to tell you that during my latest medical exam doctors detected cancer in my other breast and they have decided to operate on me,” she said in a statement posted on her official website (http://luzcasal.es/).
“I am in good hands and it is nothing but a hard blow which I will quickly overcome,” she added.
Casal, 51, made her international breakthrough when her interpretation of the Agustin Lara classic “Piensa En Mi”, or “Think About Me”, featured in Oscar-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodovar’s 1992 movie “High Heels”.
She underwent chemotherapy until June 2007 after having breast surgery for the first time in January of that year.
Casal said she was postponing her scheduled concerts until further notice.
