MADRID — The entire Spanish royal family gathered for the christening of Irene de Todos los Santos Urdangarin y de Borbon, daughter of the duke and duchess of Palma.
The Spanish prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and his wife, Sonsoles Espinosa also attended the ceremony in Madrid.
The baby, the first daughter born to the couple, who have three sons, Juan Valentin, Pablo Nicolas and Miguel, was baptized at the Zarzuela Palace by Madrid Archbishop Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, who poured water from the Jordan River over the little girl’s head.
Irene, born in Barcelona on 5 June,is the sixth grandchild of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.
