Spanish minister attacks ‘blackmail’ by air controllers

Spain will not allow air traffic controllers to engage in “blackmail” by taking advantage of citizens in their industrial action, Transport Minister Jose Blanco said Friday.

“We will not allow this blackmail which is using citizens as hostages,” the minister told a news conference as air traffic controllers called in sick en masse and shut down most of Spain’s airspace.
