Spanish maker of wind turbines invests in Britain

Gamesa, the Spanish maker of wind turbines, is to build a major manufacturing facility off the coast of Scotland, helping to create 800 jobs, the British government said on Friday.

“Wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa today gave a huge vote of confidence to the UK offshore wind industry by announcing their plans to build a major manufacturing facility,” next to the port town of Leith, the Department of Energy and Climate Change said in a statement.

“The project could be worth up to 150 million euros of investment and is expected to support over 800 direct jobs.”

Prime Minister David Cameron added: “This is fantastic news for Scotland and shows that the UK remains an attractive place for foreign investment.”
