Spaniards spend average 22 minutes making love

MADRID — Spaniards generally say they are good lovers, though they acknowledge that their forte is middle-distance and not the marathon.

According to results of a survey of nearly 3,000 people from across Spain, conducted as part of the National Sexual Health Campaign, Spaniards rated their satisfaction with their sexual relations at an average of 7.25 on a scale of 10.

They acknowledged, however, that the average time spent making love was 22 minutes, considered on the short side by the survey’s participants themselves and by sexologists.

Women gave themselves a higher rating (7.36) than men (7.28).

In the case of men, female partners got higher grades (7.70) than the men gave themselves (7.14).

Both sexes agreed on the importance of foreplay, which 90 percent of respondents said they engaged in, with women wanting more erotic play and seduction.

The survey found that men still have difficulties dealing openly with their sexual problems, including premature ejaculation and impotence.

Among women, the most frequently cited problems were lack of desire, inability to achieve an orgasm and aversion toward sex.

Sexologist Francisca Molero said many women lacked knowledge about their own bodies and did not think enough about sex.

Molero said, however, that she expected sexual relations to improve over time.

During the 3rd National Sexual Health Campaign, which is taking place across Spain, pamphlets are being distributed about sexuality and sexual problems affecting men and women.

Organizers are also publicising a phone number and website where health professionals can be consulted anonymously about a variety of sexual topics and problems.
