MADRID – Spain’s Income Tax system is to classify people according to the risk they present of committing fraud, the Treasury Minister Pedro Solbes said Tuesday.
Solbes said the department will apply different control measures according to each category.
Solbes announced the changes as he appeared before the Economy and Finance Commission of Spain’s Senate or upper house of parliament.
He said the traditional control measures were not effective to guard against potential fraudsters.
Solbes said the system should change from “mere verification to measures of investigation and prevention”.
He said the government should adopt preventative measures to stop people not paying tax which they owed.
