Soldier killed, 11 pupils hurt in armed car crash

ZARAGOZA — One soldier has died and 11 school pupils were injured when an armed car overturned during an army demonstration.

One teenager suffered a broken hip and another other a broken tibia, Defence sources said.

All the injured pupils, who are aged about 14, have been taken to hospital.

The accident happened when a BMR armed car from the Specialised Engineering and Pontoon Brigade, based at Monzalbarba, near Zaragoza, careered off a road.

The crash happened just after midday during an army open day.

The soldiers were giving a demonstration with the vehicle for visitors.

It was not known how many of the pupils were inside the armed car or how many been hit when it overturned.

The soldier who was killed has not been identified. He was one of two soldiers driving the armed car.

An investigation has been launched by the Army.
