Solbes conifident growth will continue next year

MADRID — Economy minister Pedro Solbes said on Tuesday he was confident of the country’s strong growth would go on.

Solbes said the Spanish economy’s strong growth in the medium term would go on and that GDP growth will remain above the European average.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Spanish daily Cinco Dias, Solbes said: “I’m confident in the figures in the medium term…we are currently at levels closer to 4 percent growth than 3 pecent, and we will continue growing.”

Spain’s GDP rose 3.8pc year-on-year in the third quarter of 2006 compared to the European average of  2.7 pc.

The Spanish government predicts GDP growth in the fourth quarter to be between 3.8pc and 3.9pc.
