Sea hunt for missing British climber

29 April 2004

PALMA – Emergency services renewed the air-sea search Thursday for a British tourist who fell into the sea while climbing in Majorca.

The 35-year-old man, who has not been named, fell from the rock face late Wednesday in the Porto Cristo area of the island.

He was filming a video for his wife when the accident happened.

He was due to return to Britain after spending a few days holiday with his wife and their two daughters.

The sea near the scene of the accident was rough, and the Spanish Sea Rescue service was Thursday trying to see if it was practical to use divers in the search.

A helicopter from the Air Sea Rescue was hunting for the missing tourist along with other officers on land.

The search started late Wednesday but had to be suspended at nightfall.

A team of psychologists were treating the wife of the missing climber for shock.
