Royal couple’s own photo opportunity

1 June 2004

PETRA, JORDAN – Spain’s Crown Prince Felipe and his new bride, Letizia Ortiz, paid a visit to the architectural jewel of the Kingdom of Jordan, it was reported Tuesday.

The Spanish royal honeymooners mixed with tourists admiring the Nabatean temples of Petra.

They were followed by a large press pack for whom they posed among the ruins.

The prince, carrying a camera, took a lot of pictures of his wife looking for just the right spot to view the historical sites. Letizia also snapped a few photos.

Felipe chatted with the local guide, who explained the history of the city, which reached its height during the 1st and 2nd centuries and is currently Jordan’s premiere tourist attraction.

Felipe and Letizia arrived in Jordan last Thursday to attend the wedding party of Crown Prince Hamza and his cousin, Princess Noor, at the Zahran Palace in the Jordanian capital.

As is customary among Muslims, the party was celebrated separately from the wedding ceremony, which was held on 29 August last year.
