MADRID – Spanish police said Thursday they had broken up a prostitution racket on the Costa del Sol, arresting seven Romanian nationals believed behind the kidnap of groups of women.
Police arrested two men in the Costa del Sol towns of Torremolinos and Fuengirola, four more in Madrid and one in the northern city of Zaragoza, all of them believed to have arranged the transport to Spain of at least five women.
The police said they had freed five women in their early 20s after raiding several properties and detaining seven men in their late 20s and early 30s.
All seven face accusations of kidnap and sexual violence.
Two months ago Spanish police shut down another criminal network in southern Spain that forced young Romanian women into prostitution and brutally beat those who resisted.
Police said women who resisted were “savagely hit, kicked and beaten with electric cables.”
