Police smash child porno ring

MADRID – Spanish civil guards have rolled up a nation-wide child pornography ring whose members in 16 provinces swapped illicit photographs on the Internet, authorities said Wednesday.

Fifteen people were arrested in the sweep and CD and DVD archives containing pornographic images of children were seized in the operation.

A spokesman said the investigation began last year when the civil guard received an anonymous tip about child pornography circulating on the Internet.

Civil guard information technology experts discovered images of an adult having sex with a child and traced Internet users who had downloaded the material.

In addition to the 15 people arrested, another 21 have been implicated, but not charged, in the case, the authorities said.
