Police reveal material showing ETA links to Basque radical parties

15 January 2008

MADRID – A raid on the homes of two leaders of Batasuna, ETA’s outlawed political wing, yielded material showing that the radical parties Basque Nationalist Action (ANV) and Communist Party of the Basque Lands (EHAK) depend on Batasuna both economically and politically, police said Monday. These documents will provide the basis for the police reports to be handed to investigating judge Baltasar Garzón, who will decide whether to suspend both parties’ activities as requested by the attorney’s office, on the grounds that they are related to the terrorist group. The move is part of renewed police action against ETA ahead of the general election.
