Pet which vanished at airport found after 11 days

12 February 2007

MADRID — A Jack Russell belonging to a British couple which disappeared at Madrid airport was found on Monday after 11 days.

His owners, who offered EUR 10,000 as a reward for anyone who found ‘Snowy’ have been contacted by the airport authorities.

His disappearance had baffled Iberia workers and airport staff who had tried to find him.

His shocked owners, Marilyn Duce and her boyfriend Harry, arrived for two weeks holiday at Madrid, only to discover their pet was not in his box.

Iberia called in help from a missing dogs’ charity.

They left food and water for the dog but without finding the missing canine.

Airport staff believe Snowy had used tunnels underneath the runways.

So desperate were they to find Snowy, they used another dog to track him down, but again had no success.

But last Saturday they pinned down the area where he was living and left food.

They wanted to gain his confidence or to drug him in order to catch the animal.

Finally, they spotted the dog near a water stream on the edge of runway 33-L.

He was said to be ‘very nervous’ when he was captured but generally in a good condition.

The dog rescue service said they did not want cash from the owners, but were only interested in finding the pet.
