MADRID – The judge investigating the 11 March massacre was Friday hearing evidence from the latest suspect to be arrested by police.

The Peruvian, who was detained on Tuesday, appeared in court in Madrid.

He is thought to be linked to Jamal Ahmidan, known as ‘The Chinese’, who is said to be  one of the masterminds behind the bombings.

Ahmidan was one of the seven terrorists who blew themselves up on 3 April in a flat in Leganés, south of Madrid.

An officer from an elite police squad was also killed in the blast.

Sources close to the investigation said that the Peruvian’s name appeared on documents found at a house in Morata de  Tajuña, near Madrid.

It was there that police believe the bombs used in the attacks were made.

The blasts killed 192 people and left more than 1,500 people injured.
