Travel chaos predicted for Easter period

Travel over the Easter period was thrown into jeopardy after a rail strike was called for March 23.

The strike, on the day that Spaniards traditionally depart for their Easter holiday, is in protest against rail firms Renfe and Adif breaking a promise to hire more workers.

Thousands of passengers were also facing travel chaos after a strike by French traffic controllers entered its second day on 22 March.

One hundred and ninety two flights to Spain were cancelled as up to 40 percent of all flights to and from were France grounded.

Alicante (30 cancellations), Palma (28), Málaga (18) and Sevilla (8) have been hit hardest during the two-day dispute.

Passengers have been advised to check with their airline before travelling to their airports.
