Record-breaking bookings for Spanish holidays this summer

Spani’s tourism industry is anticipating its most successful year yet. January figures for holiday bookings this summer are up by 27%.

A record 68.1 million tourists visited Spain in 2015.

But January figures for holiday bookings this summer are up by 27% compared to the same period last year, according to travel association ABTA.

Aside from its obvious attractions, the rise is partly attributed to political instability in other holiday destinations.

“Increased global insecurity has led people to head for tried-and-trusted places,” an Abta spokesperson said.

Portugal has also seen a rise in popularity with a 32% increase in reservations.
