The landslide victory for our sunny shores came after a LastMinute.com study surveyed 2,000 Britons.

They chose Spain because of the beaches, good weather and the cuisine, it reported.

And Spain was the most travelled-to destination for Brits after France and before Italy.

Hispanic attractions pulling them in included Picasso, in first place, followed by chorizo, tapas, paella, sangría, siestas, Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, churros, the Alhambra, and Bilbao’s Guggenheim museum.

The survey also revealed iconic Spanish artist Picasso is also one of the most respected cultural figures in the UK.

“Spain is overflowing with great cuisine, culture and incredible scenery.

“Just as Brits come and go through our country when they travel through Europe, we are sure that they will keep visiting and that it will continue being one of their favourite tourist destinations,” said Lastminute.com CEO Fabio Cannavale.
