14 September 2007

JAEN – One person died and two were missing on Friday after torrential rainfall in Jaen, Andalucía.

A search was underway for two people whose car was carried away by the river of water which swept through the village of Sabiote on Thursday night.

On average, ten centimetres of rainfall per cubic metre fell in a short time, causing the nearby river to burst its banks, said Sabiote mayor, Alfonso Medina.

Meanwhile, police found the body of a 67-year-old man in Gila en Chilluevar, where he had been swept away by the heavy rains.
