MADRID – No children were killed in the bomb attacks in Madrid, authorities disclosed Friday.
But among the 1,400 people who are being treated for injuries are 13 seriously ill children.
Pedro Núñez Morgades, head of Children’s Services in Madrid, said that among the badly injured children is a seven-month-old old girl who is the youngest of the wounded.
The girl, who is called Patricia and is from Poland, was said to be in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital.
Her mother was also badly injured in the bomb attack and has undergone surgery.
Morgades said two other children, a boy and a girl, were the most seriously injured of all those who were caught up the in the attacks.
More details of the victims of the terrorist attacks emerged Friday.
Among those who died was a pregnant woman and the son of the head of the Red Cross in Guadalajara.
Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar also said among those hurt in the 10 explosions at three train stations were people from 11 different countries.
Five-hundered psychologists have been tending to the needs of the relatives of those who were killed as well as the injured.
They are offering counselling for shock and bereavement.
Two-hundred taxi drivers in Madrid have offered to transport all the relatives of the injured free to and from the various hospitals which were treating the wounded.
The Conference of Savings Banks set up a fund of EUR 10 million for the victims and their families.
