ALZIRA – A teenage girl who was beaten to death sent a desperate text message to her mother hours before she was murdered, police said Wednesday.

Police disclosed the text message read: “Mum, I’m frightened.”

Detectives revealed the last moments of 18-year-old Clara after her ex-boyfriend had been arrested in connection with the murder.

The 21-year-old, who has only been named as Daniel, was arrested late last night.

The teenager’s body was found Tuesday morning by cyclists passing through a wooded area outside Alzira, near Valencia in north-east Spain.

The victim, who has only been named as Carla, left home late Monday night with friends but did not come home.

Her worried parents got in touch with police, according to the Antoni Bernabé, spokesman for the Valencia provincial government.

The teenager’s body was discovered under a fig tree, about ten kilometers outside Alzira.

She is thought to have been killed after ‘numerous’ strikes from a blunt instrument.

Her body had signs of three ‘puncture wounds’ and her face was left badly disfigured by the blows from her killer, police said.

Carla lived with her parents in Alzira and worked in an estate agents.

Sources close to the investigation said this could be another case of domestic violence.

They added that the investigation was ‘very advanced’.

So far this year, at least 29 women have been killed by partners or ex-husbands in cases of domestic violence.
