Mexico’s Pena Nieto discharged after gall bladder surgery

Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto was released from a military hospital Sunday after undergoing surgery to remove his gall bladder.

“I feel very good, both physically and in spirits, although with discomfort natural to all surgical interventions,” he said in a televised message on leaving the Central Military Hospital.

Pena Nieto, 47, underwent laparoscopic surgery to remove his gall bladder Friday after suffering a sudden inflammation.

He said his doctors had cleared him to resume normal activity.

On Monday, he will welcome Spain’s King Felipe VI and his wife Letizia on their first Latin American visit since he succeeded to the throne in June 2014.

In 2013, doctors operated on Pena Nieto to remove a thyroid nodule that had been detected years earlier.
