MADRID – The children who traditionally sing out the El Gordo Lottery numbers lost their monopoly Friday.
The child singers of San Ildefonso College will no longer have the sole right to sing out the winning numbers, the government said.
El Gordo is the biggest lottery in the world and the draw on December is customarily accompanied by children from the college singing out the numbers.
Traditionally, they also had the monopoly to sing the winning Primitiva numbers.
The Public Lottery Board said Friday has also changed the number of categories of prizes, the prices of the tickets and the tables and matrices of the numbers.
The changes were made with Royal Decree and effectively modify four earlier Royal decrees from 1956, 1985, 1989 and 1991.
