MADRID – King Juan Carlos formally received the two leaders of the Spanish parliament Friday as the new Socialist government was inaugurated.
Manuel Marin, the president of the Congress or the lower house, and Javier Rojo, the president of the Senate or upper house, were received at the the Zarzuela Palace.
This is a formal process to hand over power.
The King is expected to receive Spain’s new prime minister Jose Lluis Rodriguez Zapatero and other political leaders Monday.
Zapatero is to take power in two weeks.
